I was a process technician at a waste-to-oil bio refinery which transformed agricultural byproducts into a renewable fuel oil utilizing the Thermal Conversion Process. I operated and performed maintenance on pumps, valves, augers, conveyors, grinders, smart screens, flash vessels, reactors, etc. I also regularly drove tractor-trailers over the road and spotted trailers as well.

Extruder & Processing Operator - Control Room Operator 11/03 - 01/08

(This was my second employment at this facility. When I worked here before it was owned by Heinz.)
Working as a Processing Operator in the Manufacturing department, I was responsible for operating over 200 pieces of equipment, including various extruders, coolers, ovens, dryers, etc. I had to acquire a keen understanding of the flow of ingredients through the plant in order to be successful.
I was responsible for troubleshooting and correcting problems "on the run" to prevent the costly alternative of incurring downtime.
Some examples of auxiliary equipment I am familiar with include pumps, valves, motors, divert gates, vacuum and blow-lines, photo-eyes, meters, augers, grinders, conveyors, batching systems, eagle scales, weight-loss feeders, smart screens, programmable logic controllers and pc-based software for certain processes, etc.
This position also involved many Quality Assurance functions such as regularly checking densities, moisture, piece sizes, color and other characteristics.
I trained other employees and supervised temporary workers as well.

ICQA (Inventory Control & Quality Assurance) 07/02 - 11/03

I worked as an ICQA associate in a national distribution center. My responsibilities included tracking, verifying and adjusting inventories based on forecast orders, pending in-bound deliveries, and pending and completed replenishments and picks. I verified items by database number, description, warehouse location and vendor of origin. These functions were accomplished through extensive use of computer-based WMS and EDI.
I also performed regular cycle-counts and trained other associates and managers from other departments in how to perform cycle counts and participate in plant-wide inventories.
I learned about processing salvage freight and worked with salvage companies to arrange shipments of damaged goods.
I was certified on and operated stand-up and sit-down forklifts, turret-trucks, stock-pickers, stock-chasers, man lifts, etc.

I worked in the High-rise Storage department where I operated a rail-guided, high-rise stock-picker to pull orders, replenish stock, and perform cycle counts on a daily basis. This position involved extensive hand-held RF scanning equipment usage within the WMS.

My responsibilities included interacting with guests from all walks of life while I did everything from clean buildings and perform maintenance, to facilitating climbing-wall events, setting up audio-visual equipment, and training other staff, including college-aged summer staff.
As an employee who was in a highly visible, service-oriented position, I maintained a positive image and pleasing rapport with our patrons, and often served as an unofficial liaison between our guests and the management of the conference center.
This was one of those jobs where I "switched hats" often to get the job done. In a single day I might replace light ballasts, repair paddle boats, answer phones, clean cabins, give climbing wall instruction, and operate a sound board that evening for a concert. I even fought a forest fire once while working here - we had our own fire truck!

I worked in the warehouse department driving a slip-sheet forklift. My responsibilities included moving product from production areas to the warehouse for storage, loading and unloading trailers, completing paperwork, interacting with over-the-road drivers, operating smart-screen automated palletizers (including troubleshooting when they malfunctioned) and stretch wrappers, along with some light inventory and housekeeping duties.
I filled in for the warehouse supervisor when they were gone on vacation, etc.

I worked in different temporary positions including: a slip-sheet forklift operator for Emerson Ventilation in Overland Park, a forklift operator at Associated Grocers in Kansas City, as a circuit board technician for EFTC in Ottawa, and a tree-trimmer and climber for Wright Tree Service.
Herdsman 07/99 - 01/00

I worked as a general herdsman. My responsibilities included milking 85 cows twice daily - seven days a week, administering medications and cleaning and sanitizing the milking equipment, parlor and lot. I also drove tractors and operated other farm machinery as needed, painted barns, etc.

I worked as the Supervisor of housekeeping and in maintenance. In addition to being responsible for the cleanliness of the facilities, I also ordered and inventoried linens and supplies associated with the lodging accommodations, trained part-time employees and volunteers. My supervisor position kept me busy about 80 percent of the time. My position at the conference center also included additional duties such as working part-time in the office, in the maintenance department and in guest services. I made repairs to buildings, gave hayrides to guests, maintained the swimming pool, etc.

During this time I worked in various positions, mostly as a sub-contractor, doing residential remodeling and construction projects.
